Concrete Foundation
Though there are many different types of foundations that you can have
when you build, concrete foundations tends to be the most popular
today. Though it does depend on where you live, this is often an easy
and economical way to add a basement or a shallow foundation to any new
construction. There can be some problems with concrete, and what is
recommended may depend on these factors along with where you are
building and what type of structure you are putting up. Most feel
concrete is strong, durable, and economically sound.
In most cases, concrete foundation is reinforced with rebar. These are
thick metal bars that run through the concrete to add strength. Most
concrete is made with this inside, but where and why something is being
used determines how much or if it is needed at all. Concrete foundation
alone, without the rebar, will not be strong enough to stand the test
of time. Even foundations built primarily with already made concrete
blocks have the same type of reinforcement built right in to give the
foundation the strength that it needs.
Over time, you do have to keep an eye on your concrete foundation
specially when you have built on land that is prone to holding a lot of
water. Ideally, you would not build on such land, but there are times
when you have to, or that the water content increases long after you
have set up your construction. You should inspect your foundation made
with concrete once a month when it rains to see if you can spot any
moisture that has been coming through. If you find something worrisome,
call someone in to have a look. It may be normal, or it may indicate a
problem that needs to be addressed.
When choosing someone to pour your concrete foundation, look for a
company with some experience in pouring in your general area. That
would tell you that they have had experience with soil much like yours,
and that they have had success with it. You may find that some
companies can pour concrete foundation rather quickly, and it may not
cost quite as much as you thought it would. You can still go with other
types of you must, so find out more about what would be best in your
particular building situation. Some prefer rock formations and other
types, and that is often because of looks or necessity.
