We may have every modern techno gadget made to date, but when it comes to fashion and decorating, retro most often beats modern. Perhaps it's the contrast of old and new that's appealing. Whatever the reason, if you're going to redo your bedroom's look, think 'old' for some original and individualistic statements reflecting your romantic personality, despite your abundant inventory of modern gadgets. Your bed is central to your bedroom furnishings and general mood. Iron bed frames are a voice from the past that resonates well with the diverse nature of today's young people. There's just something cool about kicking back on your iron bed frame, with a thick and comfy mattress piled high with big lacy pillows and a vintage quilt while chatting from your laptop on your favorite message board. Iron bed frames were also popular in the late 1960s and early 1970s, probably for much the same reasons. Something that's old lends a comforting touch to an otherwise over-plasticized world. The fact that an iron bed frame is not readily transportable just adds to the appeal. Older folks aren't into difficult physical grunt work, but younger people regard moving this piece of history as a challenge and badge of strength, not to mention willing friends. So it is again today. It may take a bit of searching to find one of these old iron bed frames, but if you haunt the local antique furniture shops, you'll eventually find your reward. Part of the fun is haggling with the dealer. Sometimes, haggling takes a turn for your wallet's betterment if you try throwing in another item or items into the deal. For example, maybe that dealer's got a vintage quilt or bedspread you adore, pillows that are perfect accessories or even a bedside rug in excellent shape. Use such items as bargaining points, but don't get confused yourself if the dealer offers multiple prices dependent on additional items. When you finally settle on a price everyone can live with, you're now faced with moving it. A pizza party, sponsored by you, usually gets you a little help from your friends. If your iron bed frame needs a little freshening of its finish, you can paint, brass plate or even spray with a metallic paint, to suit your décor. Dress your bed in all its finery and enjoy. Now how cool is that?
