It is so exciting when a family moves into a home of their own. My son
and his wife and children are having this experience this summer. They
have been renting a town home for three years and are now able to
afford a home of their own. They moved to a small town that is located
about twenty minutes from the city that the two of them work in. The
home is within the city limits so they have sewer and water, yet the
setting is very quiet and more like being out in the country.
The house has four bedrooms, which is perfect because they have a boy
and a girl. Everyone will have their own room and they will have a
spare room for guests that will double as their office space. There is
a family room as well as formal living room. The kids will share a
bathroom, the parents have one in the master suite and the guest
bedroom in the lower level of the house has a separate bath. The dining
room has a patio door that leads out to a large deck. The deck has a
built in table and bench seating. My daughter in-law asked me to go
shopping with her to find outdoor furniture cushions to place on the
benches. She also wanted to find two chairs that could be used at the
ends of the table to create more seating space. This sounded like a fun
outing so I agreed to go along.
We did not realize when we started looking for the outdoor furniture
cushions that it was going to be such a challenge to find the right
size. Most of the outdoor furniture cushions are designed for chairs.
Those that were long enough for the benches were often seamed to bend
for lounge chairs. The clerk gave us a great suggestion to go to a
marine dealer. They make waterproof pads for pontoon boats that would
work well as outdoor furniture cushions. They are made to handle the
sun as well as rain. My daughter-in-law knew that there would be times
when they would get left out in the elements and she did not want them
to be ruined. We went to the marine dealer and found cushions that were
the right thickness. They were a few inches shorter than the benches,
but they were the same width. The marine dealer gave her a great deal.
The cushions had come standard on a pontoon boat and the customer
wanted custom ordered ones instead. The cushions added a great
finishing touch to the deck.
